For anyone who has ever wanted a watch to use for everything other than telling time – the latest Apple Watch is perfect for you.
The high-tech S4 has just been announced at the Apple conference , held at the Steve Jobs theatre at the Apple Park campus in California.
The new version comes with a wild range of features – including the ability to take an electrocardiogram or ECG.
As well as this it also has an all-day battery, larger display and claims to be able to detect if the wearer has a fall.
Apple fans on social media have been eagerly watching the Apple launch event and many have poked fun at the special features of the new watch and pointed out a few flaws.
Some are sceptical about the accuracy of the device’s ability to take an ECG.
One person wrote: “Apple watch detects low heart rate, checks your activity, and if you keep ignoring, on the 30th day it will perform a bypass surgery.”
Another commented: “If you think an Apple Watch is going to give you an accurate ECG reading then you’re just the type of sucker to run out and purchase it just for that reason.”
A third posted: “The Apple Watch will now allow users to take an ECG – giving hypochondriacs everywhere actual data to back up a litany of new scares.”
Similarly Twitter users joked that getting drunk while wearing the Apple Watch Series 4 could be interesting, as the device is said to be able to call emergency services if you have a fall and are immobile for one minute.
Some thought it could also cause trouble for break dancers: “I suggest break dancers to not enable the fall detector on their Apple Watch. The whole idea is ridiculous anyway.”
Another person added that at this rate the next Apple Watch would be able to “cure cancer”.
Someone else asked if the watch could destroy Marvel’s super villain Thanos – as it can do so many other things, so why not that?
However not everyone made fun of the latest Apple product.
“As someone with heart issues I’m really excited about the new Apple Watch. That’s some real useful innovation right there,” said one person.
“This is a true game changer. If it works as described, it could revolutionise people’s lives,” added a second.
“Might have to cop that new Apple Watch,” commented a third.
